Grand Final Preview: Super Sam out to make dream come true

Sam Kerr has revealed that winning Saturday’s Westfield W-League Grand Final would mean as much to her as lifting the Asian Cup with the Matildas in 2010.

The 25-year-old has led Glory from the front once again this term, claiming the Golden Boot for the second successive year and adding a hat-trick in Sunday’s superb 4-2 semi-final win over Premiers Melbourne Victory.

And she is determined to play her part in helping her hometown club to end its search for that elusive W-League Championship by downing Sydney FC at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium.

“Winning the Grand Final would be a dream come true,” she said.

“I’d hand in all the medals I’ve won personally over the years to win this one.

“I’ve been dreaming about this for ten years and it would mean everything.

“I’ve only ever won one Championship, with Sydney FC, so hopefully this will be my second and we can bring it home. It would be right up there with winning the Asian Cup with the Matildas.”

In terms of how Saturday’s clash will pan out, meanwhile, Kerr feels that the opening goal will be absolutely vital.

“If we score first, we’ll put ourselves in a really good position and they’ll have to chase the game,” she said.

“Our front three is playing really well and scoring a few goals and our defence has really held its own in the last few weeks, making it ok for us to run amok up front.”
