Sydney FC are in third, also on 19 points, with the same goal-difference as Glory (+9) but having scored one goal more. They have played all 12 of their regular-season games.
Brisbane Roar are in second place on 20 points and Melbourne Victory are top, also on 20 points, but with a better goal-difference than Roar.
Top Four Finish Guaranteed?
Glory are guaranteed to retain fourth spot and play finals football providing they do not lose to Victory this evening by a margin of more than five goals, in which case they would be bumped out of the top four on goal-difference by Melbourne City.
So that’s the doomsday scenario out of the way, now let’s look at some more optimistic possible outcomes…
If Brisbane roar…
Brisbane Roar currently occupy second spot on 20 points, one point ahead of Glory and they visit Adelaide this afternoon in a game that will conclude before Glory kick off against Victory.
If Roar win, Glory’s best possible finishing position is third, unless they can beat Victory and Jeff Hopkins’ side then don’t pick up three points in their final game of the season against Canberra on Tuesday.
In which case, Glory would pip them for second spot and snag a home semi-final.
If Brisbane don’t…
If Roar fail to win and Glory better their result against Victory, they can clinch second spot and the home semi that goes with it.
Glory, Glory Hallelujah!
And the dream scenario is Roar failing to win, Glory defeating Victory and the navy-and-whites then not managing to beat Canberra in their final game of the regular season on Tuesday.
If that happens, Glory will be minor premiers!
