The PGFC Academy team are back on home soil this weekend, with Melbourne Victory providing the opposition at Dorrien Gardens in Round 6 of the Foxtel Y-League.
And Head Coach Richard Garcia is looking for a reaction from his charges who have stuttered somewhat in recent weeks after making a strong start to the campaign.
“It’s been testing for the players and the coaches,” he said, “because we have been good for spells in all the games, but we seem to lose our way at times and have been getting punished.
“It’s those little details that need to improve.
“Now we’re all focused for Sunday, looking to put in a strong performance and get a positive result.
“The lads deserve it. They have put so much into training and now it’s about putting it altogether on match day.”
Cameron Murray has been an ever-present at the back for Glory this season and the Scottish-born defender claimed that Garcia’s side could, and perhaps should, have come away from last week’s trip to Brisbane with something to show for their efforts.
“Yes, it was a disappointing loss,” he said, “especially after beating them earlier in the season and going 1-0 up early in the game.
“I felt we controlled them fairly well in the second half and the message at the end of the game was to be disappointed at the result, but not in the way we played. We just need to keep consistent throughout games and learn to control them and keep calm.”
The 19-year-old, who made his NPLWA debut last season with ECU Joondalup, went on to reveal that the Foxtel Y-League represents a significant step-up in quality from the local WA competition.
“I feel the Foxtel Y-League is more challenging,” he said, “but I really enjoy the challenge and playing against the best young players in the country.
“You are playing against professionals in some games and tactically, physically and mentally you need to be switched on at all times and most of all, move the ball fast. If you do that, you get rewarded.
“Training this week has been sharp and intense and we are very keen for a win. After drawing away in Melbourne early in the season, we are looking for three points this time around, especially as we thought we did enough in that first game to win it.”
