Perth Glory is delighted to announce that Socceroos defender Jason Davidson has signed a one-year deal with the club.

27-year-old Davidson has enjoyed a wide-ranging career to date, featuring spells in Portugal, Holland and England where Pacos de Fereira, Heracles Almelo, Groningen, West Bromwich Albion and Huddersfield Town were among the clubs he served.

Most recently, the Melburnian was on the books of Croatian side Rijeka from whom he spent last season on loan in Slovenia at Olimpija Ljublijana, helping them seal a league and cup double.

At international level, meanwhile, he represented Australia at Under-20 level before making his Socceroos debut against Scotland in 2012.

He featured in all three of the Socceroos’ games at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, was a key member of the 2015 Asian Cup-winning side and has now accumulated a total of 22 senior caps.

Davidson, who can operate equally effectively at left-back or centre-back, is excited to be working under a Head Coach whose ambitions match his own.

“I spoke to Tony Popovic when I was overseas and the project that he outlined was very appealing to me and also for my wife and family,” he said.

“I want to get some consistency in my football, work hard and get back into the national team.

“I think Tony can give me that platform and I’m very excited to be here.

“I want to win titles and the quality of the players that have signed show that Tony, Jacob Burns [Football Director] and everyone here has that same intent.

“I’ve got to work hard and stay focused and I believe collectively, as a team, we can get the job done.”

Burns, meanwhile, feels that Davidson’s arrival further bolsters an already strong-looking squad.

“Jason is another high-quality, Australian defender who has forged a very successful career overseas and we beat off stiff competition from a host of clubs both here and overseas in order to sign him,” he said.

“He brings great ability, athleticism and a winning mentality.”

Davidson joins Matt Spiranovic, Ivan Franjic, Neil Kilkenny and Dino Djulbic as one of five Socceroos in Glory’s 2018/19 squad.

Further player announcements are expected in the near future.
