Exciting clash in prospect – Lowe

Head Coach Kenny Lowe believes another thriller could be on the cards when Glory tackle Central Coast Mariners at nib Stadium on Sunday.

Last season’s corresponding fixture produced a dramatic 3-3 draw, with the visitors battling their way back from 3-0 down at half time to claim a point right at the death.

And Lowe is expecting more fireworks in what is his side’s opening home game of the new campaign.

“I think it’ll be an open game,” he said, “because both sides like to play expansive football and have players with bags of pace.

“Paul Okon has recruited well, bringing in some experienced guys from overseas and the Mariners are playing a great style of football which is easy on the eye.

“But obviously we have plenty of attacking threats ourselves, so it should be a good game to watch.”

Glory will, of course, be seeking their first win of the season and Lowe feels that enough encouraging signs emerged from the first two rounds to suggest that the three points will indeed be staying in WA.

“I think we could easily have picked up more than one point from the Wanderers and Jets games,” he said.

“We had plenty of opportunities against both of those sides and we finished those games very strongly.

“I’m very happy with where we’re at fitness-wise and I’m confident that we can build on those positives that came out of the first two rounds in Sunday’s game.”

The Mariners clash will see Daniel De Silva make his first return to nib Stadium since leaving Glory in 2015 and he’ll be looking to add to his goal tally having opened his account for the Gosford club last weekend.

It will also be a significant occasion for Jacob Poscoliero who is poised to make his 50th Hyundai A-League appearance, having played 47 of those previous games in Central Coast colours.

Historically, the Mariners have been something of a bogey side for Glory, having won 20 of the clubs’ 37 A-League meetings.

At nib Stadium, however, the men in purple have enjoyed the better of it, with eight wins to the Mariners’ five.

It’s shaping up to be an absolute cracker, so make sure you’re there to see the drama unfold live and unfiltered!
