All in to stop Roar

Perth Glory coach Dave Mitchell has put the onus on his entire squad to step-up their defensive efforts starting this Sunday against Queensland at Members Equity Stadium.

A string of injuries and some bad luck at the back have led to nine goals being leaked in the first three rounds and Mitchell has identified the need for a concerted effort across the park to lock down on opposition attacks.

“Collectively as a team we haven-t defended well so I-m looking at the whole situation in the defensive line,” Mitchell said.

“In football you create goals from the back and defend from the front, we-re in this together, we-re a team,” he said.

The Glory has been firing on all cylinders up front, scoring five goals and consistently putting opposition defences under threat, and if the side can produce to their potential at the back then wins are on their way.

“We-ve been coming out firing and playing well but have been unlucky. I think the crowd have been happy about how we have been playing,” said Mitchell.

“It-s a big game for us, a big game for Queensland, we-re playing at home and three crucial points are up for grabs.

“We want to win this game and get off the mark so we-ll be looking to go out and score goals and won-t just be defending that-s for sure. It-ll make for a cracking game and I-m confident we-ll get over the line with the home town support behind us,” Mitchell said.
