Now 33, the proud Bunbury local made his debut for Glory aged just 18 in November 2010, featured in the 2012 Grand Final and went on to become the club’s all-time A-League appearances record-holder.
Between his two spells in purple, Risdon spent two seasons with Western Sydney Wanderers before moving to Western United where he proceeded to make more than 90 appearances and skippered the club to the 2022 A-League Championship.
At international level, meanwhile, the dynamic defender won his first Socceroos cap against Bangladesh at HBF Park in November 2015 and was one of his country’s standout performers at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Ahead of making his 171st and final ALM appearance for Glory this weekend, Risdon was quick to acknowledge those who have helped him throughout his football journey.
“I’ve got mixed emotions in announcing my retirement from professional football,” he said.
“In doing so, I’ve reflected about my time at the club and I’m incredibly grateful for the support and relationships I’ve built over the 11 years with players, staff and especially the fans.
“I couldn’t have made it over the years without the unwavering support from my parents, family and friends.
“I’ve particularly enjoyed returning home to Perth and sharing the last two years around the club with my two boys.
“I’ll be forever grateful for these years and the memories made along the way.
“Whilst I am sad,  I’m also very excited to move into this next phase of my life and I’d love to see you all for one last game this Saturday at HBF Park.”

Glory CEO Anthony Radich, meanwhile, was quick to pay tribute to the 2012 Most Glorious Player Award winner.
“There are very few players in Glory history who have made a bigger contribution to the club on and off the pitch than Josh,” he said.
“From starting out with us as a teenager through to now when he has a beautiful young family of his own, his outstanding character has always shone through and we have been very fortunate to have him at the club.
“He gave his heart and soul for the cause every time he set foot on the pitch.
“Without doubt one of the best defenders ever to represent Perth Glory, he also made his mark on the international stage with the Socceroos and, of course, enjoyed great success with Western United.
“It has been a privilege to have been a part of his journey and on behalf of the board, players, coaches, staff and Members and fans, I would like to sincerely thank Josh for the outstanding contribution he has made to both Glory and the A-League in general.
“He will always remain a much-loved member of the Glory family, a true legend of the club and we look forward to farewelling him in style this Saturday at HBF Park.”
