Mark Milligan’s side arrived looking for a seventh successive win and made the ideal start as Lachie Bayliss fired them into the lead with 15 minutes on the clock.

Lachie Rose then doubled their advantage shortly after the restart, before Glory’s Brian Kaltak saw red and the Jets duly added a third through substitute Xavier Bertoncello.

Stefan Colakovski did manage to pull one back in stoppage-time, but it came too late to be anything more than a consolation effort for the hosts.

On a mild summer’s evening in the West, it was Glory who fired the first shot across the bows just two minutes in, Jaiden Kucharski and Adan Taggart combining to find Sam Sutton who cut inside and fired just wide.

But Newcastle looked to be brimming with confidence and had already threatened on several occasions before they hit the front.

From a short corner, Bayliss worked his way inside and bent a stunning low shot past Matt Sutton into the corner of the net.

Neither ‘keeper was called into action before the break, but it was Newcastle who generally looked the more purposeful going forward and Glory were grateful for several vital interceptions from Scott Wootton.

Adam Griffiths’ side needed to make a strong start to the second 45, but instead they found themselves two down within two minutes.

Again the goal emanated from a short corner, this time Bayliss sending in a low cross which took a deflection and sat up perfectly for Rose to slot home at the far post.

Having been introduced from the bench, Colakovski came close to dragging Glory back into it as he was denied by James Delianov in the Newcastle goal, but moments later the dismissal of Kaltak left the men in purple with a mountain to climb.

It was Kaltak’s initial error which allowed Ben Gibson to race clear and in his attempt to recover, Kaltak only succeeded in impeding the Jets forward just outside the box, rendering the straight red inevitable.

The game was then effectively settled as a contest when Kota Mizunuma picked out fellow-substitute Bertoncello with an inviting cross and he crashed in a fierce half-volley.

To their credit, the Shed maintained the volume levels right to the end and received at least some reward in the 92nd minute when Trent Ostler’s cross was headed goalward by the tireless Charbel Shamoon and with a sliding toe-poke, Colakovski claimed his second goal in as many games.
