Taggart recalled to Socceroos squad for vital World Cup Qualifiers

Glory ALM skipper Adam Taggart has been recalled to the Socceroos squad for this month’s vital FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifiers against Indonesia in Sydney and China in Hangzhou.

The 31-year-old, who has scored seven A-League goals this term, last featured for the Socceroos in September’s draw with Indonesia when he won his 21st senior cap.

Former Glory and current Socceroos Head Coach, Tony Popovic, has selected 26 players for the Group C fixtures, including ex-Glory defender Alex Grant who has been drafted in for the first time.

The Socceroos currently sit second in the group and Popovic is relishing the prospect of his charges returning to action for the first time since November.

“It was a whirlwind start to the beginning of my tenure with the national team and since November we’ve had the chance to review and assess all facets of our program ahead of these Qualifiers,” he said.

“We understand the importance of these upcoming games and are excited by the opportunity to further cement our position in the group’s automatic qualifying positions.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the players and getting the squad together on the pitch in preparation for what will be a great occasion at the Sydney Football Stadium.”

The clash with Indonesia in Sydney will take place on Thursday 20 March (kick-off at 5pm WST) and the Socceroos will then face China at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Stadium on Tuesday 25 March (kick-off at 7pm WST).
