PGFC Academy Latest: Mixed fortunes for senior teams in Play Off and Top Four Cup

The PGFC Academy senior teams enjoyed mixed fortunes in their respective competitions over the weekend.

The First Team will have to overcome a two-goal deficit in next weekend’s Inter-Divisional Pro/Rel Play Off second leg after losing 3-1 to Mandurah City, while the Under-18s and Under-20s both secured Top Four Cup Final places with respective 3-1 wins over Perth SC.

An early goal from Jordan Callaghan had the home fans in full voice at Poolmart Mandurah Stadium, before a slaloming run and low cross from Khoa Ngo enabled Jaylan Pearman to draw the First Team level seven minutes into the second half.

But Mandurah restored their lead almost immediately, Leigh Griffiths turning cleverly in the box and drilling home a low shot.

And the former Celtic and Scotland striker duly grabbed his second and City’s third midway through the second half, this time converting from the spot after the luckless Tadiwanashe Kuzamba had been penalised for handling in the box.

Earlier in the day, however, the 18s and 20s both came out on the right side of the ledger in Top Four Cup semi-finals.

Oliver Evans (2) and TadiwaShaun Mutyavaviri shared the goals for the 18s, while Alex Bolton, Louis Sollitt and Maxim Uvarov were all on target for the 20s.

The First Team will play the second leg of their Inter-Divisional Pro/Rel Play Off at the Sam Kerr Football Centre on Sunday 22 September (kick-off at 1pm).

The 18s and 20s, meanwhile, will take on the winners of the midweek Elimination Final in the Top Four Cup Final at the Sam Kerr Football Centre on Saturday.

Kick-off times have been confirmed as 9:30am for the 18s and 2:00pm for the 20s.

Do get along and support the lads if you can!
