The start of the 2023/24 Liberty A-League Women’s Season may still be over two months away, but Glory Head Coach Alex Epakis has been busy securing a host re-signings and new recruits as he looks to assemble an exciting and dynamic squad ready to deliver Finals football.
Fresh from FIFA Women’s World Cup duty with New Zealand, former MGP Liz Anton was the latest key figure to be locked in as the core of last year’s squad prepares to go again.
Fellow-defender Natasha Rigby will again wear the captain’s armband as she closes in on her 100th ALW appearance in purple, while Izzy Foletta is also back in the fold having been a standout performer after returning to her hometown club last term.
Highly-rated prospect Claudia Mihocic is another defensive option- to have re-signed and Bella Wallhead will also continue as part of the squad as she battles her way back from long-term injury.
Sofia Sakalis, Sarah Cain and Sadie Lawrence, who made 38 starts between them last year, are all on board once more, as is Hana Lowry who further reinforced her burgeoning reputation as a future Matildas representative by scoring four goals and adding five assists as an ever-present in 2022/23.
She will be joined in the middle of the park by new recruit Izzy Dalton, who brings a wealth of European experience and Epakis will have further options available in the form of up-and-coming young locals Georgia Cassidy and Grace Johnston, who have been signed after impressing for Hyundai NTC in the NPLW WA.
Three more West Aussies, new teenage forward Tanika Lala, the versatile Abbey Green and goalkeeper Morgan Aquino will again be out to impress, as will livewire forward Susan Phonsongkham who is back for what will be her third season with the club.
With more key signings still to come, including some overseas additions, it is shaping up to be another thrilling season for our Glory Women.
