Risdon: It’s like a cup final

Socceroo and Perth Glory stand-in skipper Josh Risdon has described the Round 22 clash against Newcastle Jets on the Monday Labour Day long weekend as a ‘Cup Final’.

Glory is looking to bounce back after its disappointing 2-1 loss at the hands of Western Sydney Wanderers at Pirtek Stadium last week and consolidate on its charge to the finals.

“We didn’t play bad at all we played very well. We’ve just got to bounce back and go back to winning ways against Newcastle on Monday” Risdon said.

Glory’s 6-1 thrashing of Newcastle in Round 16 was the start of Perth’s five game winning streak and Risdon is confident the looming encounter at nib Stadium will be an opportunity for the West Australians to climb further up the A-League ladder.

“We’ve been very solid at home and the crowds at home have been building the last few home games. I’m sure it will be a big crowd and be able to turn on a game like we did against Brisbane a few weeks ago.

“There’s six games left and we’ll take each game at it comes. It’s a must win for us and any points we drop will hurt us. We’re not going to take it lightly. Each game is like it’s a cup final because we can’t afford to drop any points if we want to make that six” he added.

Risdon said since he’s been stepping in a captain, he’s taken on some more responsibility and has become a more confident footballer.

“I’m just doing my bit for the team” he said.

Kick-off for the game against the Jets on Monday March 7 is at 5pm.
