Perth Glory’s quest for a third consecutive Westfield FFA Cup final has begun with an opening round clash against Brisbane Roar.
Glory coach Kenny Lowe said he was excited about heading to Queensland to take on the former Hyundai A-League champions for the first official hit out of the season.
“The Cup is a good way to prepare for our Hyundai A-League campaign. The more pre-season games we get, the better” he said.
“Hopefully it’s third time lucky for us and go all the way” Lowe said.
Thirteen WA born or raised players are in Glory’s 16/17 squad and the team is one of three WA sides (along with Cockburn and Floreat) flying the flag for the state.
“It’s a proud moment to be able to represent your city and state on the national level” said new Glory recruit and Socceroo Rhys Williams.
“I’ve played the game in England for the last 11 years and to be able to be among so many local lads and try and go one step further in the campaign would be a great accomplishment” he said.
The date, venue and kick-off time for Glory’s first clash will be known later this week.
Perth Glory supporters are reminded every renewing member for the Hyundai A-League 16/17 season will receive FREE FFA Cup tickets (only if renewed before July 20) to all home games (excluding the grand final).
